What is the Political Courage Test?

Oregon Congressional Election 2020 Political Courage Test

Pro-life Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
According to Dr. Bernard Nathanson, American Bioethics Advisory Commission there is not a need to consider abortion to save a mothers life. In most if not all cases, it should be considered "early delivery" and all efforts to save the child should be considered.
No In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
Yes Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
Social Security is not an entitlement program as it was developed. It is a system where companies and people are forced to pay into a system and where they may receive back from the system at retirement. I am not in favor of calling or making SS a open welfare system, people who have paid into should be funded when they reach retirement. Medicare system needs to be funded for those who are disabled, and retired. This system should not be "loaning" money to other systems that have exceeded budget. We need to overhaul.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Indirect contributions by nature are not transparent, and often forced upon workers by their corporations or unions. Campaign contributions should be made by individuals based on personal belief, and should not be tied with jobs. This creates potential for abuse from employers who have different ideology than employees.
Yes Do you support increasing defense spending?
Our country is at war in many ways. I do not believe we need more offensive military spending, however under the DOD military spending includes a defensive side: research to combat biological warfare, research and development to combat electronic espionage, research and development to protect our citizens, military spending to ensure production of PPEs in our country.
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
No Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
I support the repeal of common core and recommend that education be streamlined back to education that will teach our youth how to be critical thinkers rather than memorization to pass tests. Our college bound students and our post grad students are not competitive with other countries such as China, and Russia, causing vulnerability in our defense and high tech sectors.
Yes Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
No Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
No Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
2nd amendment rights need to be preserved in full. Consequences for illegal use need to be enforced. There will always be criminals with guns and citizens need to maintain their right to self protection.
Yes Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
Yes Do you support requiring businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, such as COVID-19?
Yes Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
No Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
Illegal Citizens to this country need to be viewed based in individual circumstance and threats. They need to apply for asylum if there are extenuating circumstances, All immigrants need to be screened for infectious disease. A history of illegal activity (human trafficking, drugs, rape, murder etc. ) considered felonies in the United States to be returned to country of origin. If they are here they need to be employed with a seasonal work or other work visa. This process should be made easier for employers to help workers apply for temporary work visa while they legally complete process.
Yes Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)?
Yes Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts?
No Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
Countries who do not respect others, need to have barriers. For example China which has chosen to work around our existing trade laws creating unfair trade advantages to US companies needs to have tariffs to level the playing field for our US corporations.
1 Eliminate amendments to legislation that are not directly related to the topic of the legislation. (eg: do not include environmental bills in Medicare bills ) Bills need to become one issue bills, allowing each bill to pass or fail on its own merit. 2 Campaign finance reform, Only individual contributions to a campaign. Raise limit to $10k. No PAC or Corp Company money that may influence a politician for a specific business purpose. 8 Reallocate dollars from active military equipment,(F-35s and submarines) to humanitarian efforts domestic and worldwide,ie: education and healthcare
